Akira Toriyama’s Former Editor Criticizes Dragon Ball Super: Beerus

All things considered, Dragon Ball Super: Beerus is off to a great start. The new opening scene has done a better job of framing Goku’s arc than the original series ever did, the animation and art direction are massively improved, and the story’s moving at a great pace. Unfortunately, Akira Toriyama’s legendary original editor on Dr. Slump and the Dragon Ball manga, Kazuhiko Torishima, isn’t a fan of the anime remake.

Following the premiere of Dragon Ball Super: Beerus Episode 1, Kazuhiko Torishima took to X to reveal that the first episode made him “grumpy like Beerus.” Torishima’s disdain for modern Dragon Ball as well as the anime and manga industry is no secret. He’s previously criticized the likes of One Piece and doesn’t seem to hold Dragon Ball Super‘s Toyotarou in particularly high esteem. Given that Torishima didn’t like Dragon Ball DAIMA either, him disliking the Dragon Ball Super remake is par for the course.

Why Did Dragon Ball Super: Beerus Episode 1 Make Torishima Grumpy?

Watching the episode itself, it’s hard to understand what exactly made Torishima so grumpy. If anything, Dragon Ball Super: Beerus is the most the series has felt like Akira Toriyama’s manga in years – even more so than Dragon Ball DAIMA. The pace is unquestionably fast and doesn’t waste time, but individual moments are still given a lot of time to breathe in order to land with the appropriate weight.

It’s reminiscent of how masterfully Toriyama used every panel – even the smallest ones – in the original manga. Torishima simply doesn’t seem to like the fact that Dragon Ball exists as a franchise without his involvement. He is a major reason why the series became so successful and undeniably helped maintain the manga’s quality while it was originally running in Weekly Shonen Jump, but Torishima’s recent comments about Dragon Ball Super: Beerus feel entirely out of place and unfounded.

PakarPBN

A Private Blog Network (PBN) is a collection of websites that are controlled by a single individual or organization and used primarily to build backlinks to a “money site” in order to influence its ranking in search engines such as Google. The core idea behind a PBN is based on the importance of backlinks in Google’s ranking algorithm. Since Google views backlinks as signals of authority and trust, some website owners attempt to artificially create these signals through a controlled network of sites.

In a typical PBN setup, the owner acquires expired or aged domains that already have existing authority, backlinks, and history. These domains are rebuilt with new content and hosted separately, often using different IP addresses, hosting providers, themes, and ownership details to make them appear unrelated. Within the content published on these sites, links are strategically placed that point to the main website the owner wants to rank higher. By doing this, the owner attempts to pass link equity (also known as “link juice”) from the PBN sites to the target website.

The purpose of a PBN is to give the impression that the target website is naturally earning links from multiple independent sources. If done effectively, this can temporarily improve keyword rankings, increase organic visibility, and drive more traffic from search results.
