Unfortunately for EA fans, the company is shutting down yet another one of its games. EA releases all kinds of online-focused and live-service games, and so, inevitably, many of its titles eventually get shut down. EA also produces many sports games that use various likeness and music licenses, and those games eventually get delisted and shut down as well. The never-ending shutdowns and delistings can make it frustrating to be a fan of EA-published products, but the company does at least let fans know well in advance before it pulls the plug on something.
And on the bright side, EA games that have offline modes remain playable even after their online services are shut down. This applies to most major EA sports games on consoles that are shut down. Players lose the ability to access their online components, but they can still play any single-player content as much as they’d like. EA’s mobile games, meanwhile, are almost always gone forever after they have been shut down.
When is NBA Live Mobile Shutting Down?
That seems to be the case with NBA Live Mobile, which first released in 2016 for Android and iOS mobile devices. The mobile basketball game lasted longer than many other games of its kind, with users able to enjoy it for about a decade. Sadly for anyone that may still be playing NBA Live Mobile, the game will be shutting down completely on October 27. From that point forward, it will no longer be playable. However, many fans likely assumed that this was just a matter of time. NBA Live Mobile was delisted two years ago, meaning that there have been no new players in years and EA also stopped selling its microtransactions at the same time. If anything, it’s surprising that the game has remained playable for so long after it was delisted.

NBA Live Mobile marks the end of an era for EA in more ways than one. NBA Live Mobile was the last EA-published basketball game to still have its servers online. The two games that released after it, NBA Live 18 and NBA Live 19, had their servers shut down in 2024 and early 2026, respectively. This means that after NBA Live Mobile is shut down, 2K will truly be the only option when it comes to a big online basketball simulation experience.
But just like EA shuts its games down on a regular basis, so too does 2K. In fact, 2K seems to kill its games even faster in some cases. The latest info suggests that NBA 2K25 servers are shutting down on January 1, 2027, while NBA 2K26 is on the chopping block for late 2027. One would think that seeing how fast these companies shut down their sports games would make some fans hesitant to buy the latest releases, but on the contrary, the games continue to sell ridiculously well.
In any case, basketball fans will have to be satisfied with the 2K games. EA has no plans to make a new basketball game, and while it was reportedly working on a college basketball game, that is apparently no longer happening. When NBA Live Mobile shuts down on October 27, EA may be out of the basketball game permanently.
