Black Ops 2 is One of the Best-Selling Games of 2026

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 has reportedly sold more than 8 million copies on the PlayStation Store since July, making it one of the year’s best-selling games. Interestingly, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 was released as a simple 1080p port of the original 2012 game with no significant changes. Yet, people still apparently flocked to buy it regardless.

Black Ops 2 wasn’t the only classic Call of Duty game that was ported to PS4 and PS5. The first installment was also shadow dropped on the same day, generating another reported 3 million copies in sales for Activision and Xbox. So, if the recent data are accurate, the two new Black Ops ports managed to sell over 11 million copies on PS4 and PS5 right in the middle of the “No Disc, No Buy” movement.

Black Ops 2 Made Over $300 Million in Less Than a Month, Report Suggests

A few days after Sony announced the end of PlayStation disc production, Black Ops and its sequel were suddenly added to the PlayStation Store on July 9. Now, a report from Alinea Analytics suggests that Black Ops 2 alone has managed to generate $325 million on the new platform. Adding the predecessor’s sales, which have reportedly exceeded $110 million, brings the total to $435 million in revenue before accounting for Sony’s 30% platform fee. Basically, Xbox managed to release one of the best-selling games of 2026 by porting two PS3 titles to PS4 and PS5.

Interesting Data from Alinea Analytics Report

  • 93% of Black Ops 2 purchases were on PS5.
  • 94% of Black Ops 1 buyers were PS5 users.
  • Most people who purchased the Black Ops ports on PlayStation appear to be 30 years old or above.

A noteworthy comparison was made by Alinea Analytics between the Black Ops ports and the newly released Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced. Ubisoft’s ground-up remake has reportedly sold over 1.5 million copies on PS5 in July, which amounts to half of what the 2010 Call of Duty: Black Ops port sold on the platform during the same period. Black Ops 2, on the other hand, completely dwarfs Black Flag Resynced in terms of sales, as it has potentially sold over 6 million more copies on PlayStation’s storefront.

The nearly 15-year-old double port of the Black Ops games hasn’t just dominated other AAA releases on PlayStation. In fact, data suggests that the Black Ops duology has been more popular than Activision’s own Black Ops 7 and Warzone combined. On July 16, almost a week after the ports’ release, it was reported that Black Ops 1 and Black Ops 2 reached about 6.8 million players in the US alone, which is an incredibly high number for $40 games that have not even been remade or remastered.

It is worth noting that Alinea Analytics uses its own techniques and tools to “estimate” a game’s sales on different platforms. In other words, the numbers mentioned in the report might not be 100% accurate. However, the team’s estimations are often quite close to official data and are generally reliable.

PakarPBN

A Private Blog Network (PBN) is a collection of websites that are controlled by a single individual or organization and used primarily to build backlinks to a “money site” in order to influence its ranking in search engines such as Google. The core idea behind a PBN is based on the importance of backlinks in Google’s ranking algorithm. Since Google views backlinks as signals of authority and trust, some website owners attempt to artificially create these signals through a controlled network of sites.

In a typical PBN setup, the owner acquires expired or aged domains that already have existing authority, backlinks, and history. These domains are rebuilt with new content and hosted separately, often using different IP addresses, hosting providers, themes, and ownership details to make them appear unrelated. Within the content published on these sites, links are strategically placed that point to the main website the owner wants to rank higher. By doing this, the owner attempts to pass link equity (also known as “link juice”) from the PBN sites to the target website.

The purpose of a PBN is to give the impression that the target website is naturally earning links from multiple independent sources. If done effectively, this can temporarily improve keyword rankings, increase organic visibility, and drive more traffic from search results.
